Course description: 

The aim of this course is to provide a refresher and comprehensive review of the basic anatomy and physiology of the spine. The course will review the cervical, thoracic, and lumbosacral regions and the structural characteristics of the typical vertebra. Radiographic images of the spine and cross-sectional images demonstrating the anatomy will be displayed. The course will conclude with a review of common pathological conditions and diseases affecting the spine. This is a great review for anyone in the medical field.




Course objectives: 

After completion of this tutorial the participant will be able to:

  • Identify and locate the cervical, thoracic and lumbar vertebrae and their parts
  • Describe the basic functions of the spine
  • Describe the location, the structure and parts of the typical vertebrae
  • Locate or identify the main structures on a radiographic image
  • Locate or identify the main structures on across-sectional image
  • Discuss the common pathological conditions and diseases
