Course description: 

The following case study provides information regarding arterial dissection with special attention focused on carotid arterial dissection. By reviewing the medical history and the results of several diagnostic modalities, the characteristics of this pathology are examined.




Course objectives: 

Following the review of this information, as well as the discussion provided in the library, the learner will be able to:

  • Describe the symptoms that can be associated with arterial dissection.
  • Describe the causes and pathophysiologic aspects of arterial dissection.
  • Recognize the clinical features of arterial dissection.
  • Name several conditions, which predispose to the development of arterial dissection.
  • Describe the sonographic features of carotid dissection.
  • Learn the technical aspects of a complete sonographic evaluation of the carotid arteries.
