Course description: 

From this case study, the learner will distinguish the ultrasound findings associated with the pathology of ductal carcinoma in situ - DCIS. These findings will be correlated with other imaging modalities such as; magnetic resonance imaging, computerized tomography, nuclear medicine (PET) imaging and the gold standard for breast imaging and screening; mammography.



Course objectives: 

After the review of this information, as well as the discussion provided in the library, the learner will be able to:

  • Summarize definitions and classifications related to ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS).
  • List the typical ultrasound findings of DCIS.
  • Recognize the mammographic appearance of calcifications associated with DCIS.
  • Describe the current treatment options and management of DCIS.
  • Suggest situations in which other modalities, such as breast ultrasound can better depict DCIS.
  • Describe radial and antiradial breast planes.
