Course description: 

This course offers an in depth reconnaissance of a nuclear medicine examination of the kidneys: dynamic renography. The course also deals with the relevant anatomy, fetal development and physiology of the kidneys, and with some concepts from nephrology. The course is primarily intended as continuous education for professionals in the field of diagnostic imaging. Other (health care) professionals can also take this course, and use it to deepen their understanding of this nuclear medicine procedure.



Course objectives: 

After studying this course the student will be able to:

  • Describe the relevant anatomy and physiology of the urinary system
  • Describe the difference between static and dynamic examinations
  • Explain the rationale of dynamic renography
  • Outline the procedure of this examination
  • Understand the choice of the radiopharmaceuticals used
  • List the main indications for referral
  • Explain the basic principles and practice of background subtraction
  • Outline the computer techniques for quantification of kidney function
  • Discuss the special features of ACEI renography
  • Discuss the special features ofdiuresis renography
