Course description: 

 Data is the foundation from which we create information. It is from this information that we derive insights and ultimately make intelligent decisions which impact the world around us. In the past, this data has been stored in static libraries and large databanks. It took significant time to gather and analyze all this data. Today, there are massive volumes of data, much of generated in real time, especially with the introduction of wireless sensors. This module will review the basics of data, both big and little and the impact on healthcare that it is having in our daily lives.



Course objectives: 

• Describe what data is 
• Compare and contrast the difference between structured and unstructured data 
• Explain the concept of big data and the "Internet of Things" 
• Define the various sources of big data 
• Discuss the various methods of linking together different data to generate information 
• Describe how data is converted into information and then insights.
