Course description: 

The History of Cardiac Catheterization discusses the development and progression of Cardiac Catheterization from the 1800's to present. This module also illustrates many of todays common protocols used in routine Cardiac Catheterization procedures.

Course objectives: 

Upon completion of the Cardiac Catheterization course the student will be able to:

  1. Discuss of the origins of cardiac catheterization.
  2. Describe the pioneers who contributed to the advancement of cardiac catheterization.
  3. Explain the first techniques for cardiac catheterization.
  4. Discuss cineroentgenography and the early stages of coronary visualization.
  5. Describe the cardiac catheterization complications.
  6. Discuss procedures for patient care and preparation.
  7. Describe the basic processes for performing a cardiac catheterization.
