Course description: 

The Image Interpretation series will aid the Radiologic Technologist in understanding image interpretation and evaluation of x-rays; this module will not provide a qualification in image interpretation. 

This session will look at pulmonary nodules, at the pleura, the pleural spaces and common pathologies that affect them. Emphasis will be placed upon the plain x-ray appearances of some of the common and important pathologies. 



Course objectives: 

By the end of this session you will be able to: 

  • Recall the anatomy of the chest as demonstrated on postero-anterior chest radiographs 
  • Describe pulmonary nodules and masses 
  • Describe the common causes of pulmonary nodules
  • Describe the anatomy of the pleura and pleural cavities 
  • Describe the common and important pathologies which affect the pleura and pleural spaces 
  • Appreciate how the physiology of the pleural cavities affects the imaging appearances of the pathologies
