Course description: 

This case study provides information about a patient with renal artery stenosis. The patient's medical history, results of diagnostic procedures, scanning techniques and therapeutic options are discussed. This case study illustrates some of the sonographic features of renal artery stenosis and includes a discussion on stenosis caused by fibromuscular dysplasia versus an atherosclerotic process.




Course objectives: 

Following the review of the modality results and the discussion provided in the library, you will be able to:

  • Discuss the role of ultrasound in the assessment of renal artery stenosis (RAS)
  • Describe the typical ultrasound findings of a RAS
  • Identify common causes of renal artery stenosis
  • Discuss the characteristics of a stenosis caused by fibromuscular dysplasia versus an atherosclerotic process
  • Explain the timing of intervention for RAS as it relates to blood pressure.
