What you will learn

Course description:

Explore the surface anatomy of the brain, its ventricular system and arterial blood supply. This module, which illustrates cerebrospinal fluid and blood flow in the brain, will help you identify major venous sinuses, the cerebellum and lobes of the cerebrum. You will also expand your knowledge of the limbic system, the basal ganglia, brain stem structures and cranial nerves. Follow along at your own pace with easy-to-understand illustrations and interactive animation sequences that allow you to scroll through high quality CT and MR images that show normal findings of the brain.

Sectional Anatomy Essentials Module 3: The Brain is the third in a series of nine modules.

Course objectives:

Upon completion of this module, the participant will be able to:
• Explain the surface anatomy of the brain, including the structure of the meninges.
• Locate the structures of the brain’s ventricular system.
• Describe the arterial blood supply to the brain.
• Identify the major venous sinuses that carry blood from the brain to the internal jugular veins.
• Name the lobes of the cerebrum.
• Describe the location and structure of the cerebellum.
• Identify the components and explain the function of the limbic system.
• Describe the relationships of the basal ganglia.
• Locate and identify the anatomical structures of the brainstem.
• Name the 12 cranial nerves, state the foramina that serve as passageways for each pair of nerves and describe the function of each nerve.

This activity may be available in multiple formats or from different sponsors. ARRT regulations state that an individual may not repeat a self-learning activity for credit if it was reported in the same or any subsequent biennium.
