Course description: 

This learning exercise provides clinical information regarding a silicone breast implant rupture. By reviewing the medical history and test results of several diagnostic modalities, the characteristics of this pathology are examined.




Course objectives: 

Following the review of this information, as well as the discussion provided in the library, the learner will be able to:

  • Distinguish between subglandular and subpectoral implants
  • Determine the difference between single-lumen and double-lumen silicone implants
  • Critique the difference between intracapsular and extracapsular silicone implant rupture
  • Describe the mammographic, sonographic, and MRI signs of extracapsular rupture
  • Describe the symptoms of silicone breast implant rupture
