Course description: 

This learning exercise provides clinical information regarding a primary subclavian-axillary vein thrombosis. By reviewing the medical history and test results of several diagnostic modalities, the characteristics of this pathology are examined.




Course objectives: 

Following the review of this information as well as the discussion provided in the library the learner will be able to:

  • Identify risk factors, etiology, and occurrence rates of upper extremity deep vein thrombosis (DVT).
  • Distinguish specificity and sensitivity of the sonographic examination in the diagnosis of DVT.
  • Compare different vascular imaging modalities to the "gold standard" or venography.
  • Differentiate and compare symptomology of upper and lower extremity DVT.
  • Describe the venous anatomy of the upper extremity.
