Course description: 

This 2 hour course includes lectures and interactive case presentations. Program topics include upper and lower extremity venous duplex sonography, comprehensive protocol for , evaluation of the upper and lower extremity peripheral veins, central veins of the head and neck, pelvic Veins and the Inferior vena cava. This course provides a review of the essential protocols for venous duplex sonography for an experienced sonographer or a comprehensive overview for the beginner.

Course objectives: 

Upon completion of this course, attendees should be able to:

  • Understand the physical principles of ultrasound and Doppler imaging and apply that knowledge towards image optimization and recognition of pitfalls and artifacts.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the upper and lower extremity venous systems during a routine exam.
  • Differentiate normal from abnormal findings and correctly interpret acquired data using B-mode, color and spectral Doppler imaging modalities.
  • Obtain and/or increase confidence to incorporate protocols, techniques and interpretation criteria to improve diagnostic and treatment accuracy
