Course description: 

This Philips Clinical Education VILT course for noninvasive vascular ultrasound specialists is developed to meet the need to standardize performance protocols and diagnostic criteria for noninvasive evaluation of the renal arteries. The course includes didactic presentation as well as interactive case discussion.  Program topics include a review of renovascular hypertension, how to diagnose renal artery stenosis, follow up of patients following intervention for RAS, and other less common types of renal vascular pathology. This course is delivered by Leslie Scoutt, MD.

Course objectives: 

Upon completion of this course, attendees should be able to:

  • Discuss anatomy, scanning technique and Doppler findings of the normal renal arteries
  • Discuss the epidemiology and significance of renovascular hypertension
  • Discuss the duplex Doppler US criteria for the diagnosis of RVHT
  • Discuss the role of US in the follow up of patients following intervention for renal artery stenosis (arterial bypass graft and stent placement)
  • Describe the duplex Doppler ultrasound findings in less common renal vascular pathology such as pseudoaneurysms, arteriovenous fistulas, renal infarction/embolus, and renal artery aneurysms
