What you will learn

Course description:

This course will describe the indications and sonographic approach for complete upper and lower extremity arterial duplex exams. It is organized into three sections: Lower extremity arterial anatomy and duplex imaging, upper extremity arterial anatomy and duplex imaging, and peripheral arterial disease. The course will focus on normal anatomy and exam protocols before a review of signs and symptoms of peripheral arterial disease and exam/technique modifications for assessing obstructive arterial disease with ultrasound.

This course is part of the Vascular eLearning Curriculum.

  • Discuss the indications for imaging arteries using ultrasound
  • Discuss arterial branches of the distal abdominal aorta and arteries of the lower extremities
  • Review the appropriate transducer selection for lower extremity arterial duplex exams
  • Examine the major arterial branches of the lower extremities using B-Mode/2D, color and PW Spectral Doppler
  • Review the standards of a complete lower extremity arterial duplex exam

The Upper Extremity Arterial Anatomy & Duplex Imaging section of this module will:

  • Discuss arterial branches of the aortic arch and major vessels leading to the upper extremities
  • Examine the major arterial branches of the upper extremities using B-Mode/2D, color and PW spectral Doppler
  • Review the standards of a complete upper extremity arterial duplex exam

The Peripheral Arterial Disease section of this module will:
