What you will learn

Course description:

This course will cover upper and lower extremity venous anatomy as well as minimum standards for ultrasound evaluation of venous patency. Ultrasound images are presented with and without compression sonography. Doppler evaluation protocols are reviewed while focusing on normal venous hemodynamics.

Course objectives:

The Lower Extremity Venous Anatomy and Hemodynamics section of this course will:

  • Discuss the typical venous flow movement from distal to proximal and superficial into deep
  • Describe the normal venous vessel characteristics and response to volume changes
  • Discuss the anatomy of the major venous vessels of the lower extremity
  • Discuss the hemodynamic significance of communicating veins, perforator veins and venous valves

The Lower Extremity Venous Duplex Imaging section of this course will:

  • Review the common indications for lower extremity duplex imaging for venous patency
  • Review appropriate transducer selection for lower extremity venous duplex imaging for venous patency
  • Examine the major venous vessels of the lower extremities using B-Mode/2D, color and PW spectral Doppler
  • Review the standards of a complete lower extremity venous duplex exam for venous patency

The Upper Extremity Venous Anatomy & Duplex Imaging section of this course will:

  • Review the common indications for upper extremity duplex imaging for venous patency
  • Examine the major venous vessels of the upper extremities using B-Mode/2D, color and PW spectral Doppler
