What you will learn

Course description:

This comprehensive, one-day course will explore cardiac anatomy in great detail. Many sonographers have never actually seen a real heart, despite having performed echo cardiograms for years. Now that 3D ultrasound is rapidly becoming commonplace, ultrasound professionals need to understand the heart as it really exists, in three dimensions.

Topics cover detailed anatomy, a guided two-hour porcine dissection, comparison of standard 2D ultrasound dimensional imaging to actual anatomy and 3D ultrasound. The course will also include a session examining 3D ultrasound cardiac anatomic details through digital dissection of 3D volumes. To truly understand what you are seeing in a 3D echo image, it is critical to have a thorough understanding of basic cardiac anatomy, particularly the spatial relationships between the major structures.

This is a great opportunity for sonographers to learn cardiac anatomy as perhaps they never have before. With the growing utilization of 3D ultrasound, there is no better time, nor a more important reason, to learn 3D cardiac anatomy.

Prerequisite skills: A thorough knowledge and understanding of 2D echocardiography and system instrumentation is recommended for this program.
