Course description: 

This up to 2 hour Philips Clinical Education VILT course for noninvasive vascular diagnostic specialists is developed to meet the climbing need to standardize protocols and diagnostic approach for the performance of an arterial abdominal Doppler ultrasound examination and for the assessment of the arterial abdominal vasculature. This comprehensive review of abdominal arterial anatomy, Doppler flow profiles of the normal abdominal arterial vasculature, scanning techniques and protocols is delivered by Leslie Scoutt, MD.

Course objectives: 

Upon completion of this course, attendees should be able to:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the normal abdominal arterial anatomy including common congenital anomalies and the normal sonographic appearance of these vessels on grayscale imaging
  • Describe the normal spectral Doppler flow profiles of the abdominal aorta and its major branches
  • Discuss how to optimize scanning techniques for abdominal arterial ultrasound evaluation and how to accurately make the varied measurements necessary to allow accurate diagnosis of common abdominal arterial pathology
  • Understand recommended protocols for common abdominal arterial ultrasound examinations
