Course description: 

The course emphasizes the normal structure and function of the thyroid gland and discusses common disease entities and imaging modalities used to diagnose disease. A review of the histology is used to enable understanding of the physiology and diseases of the thyroid. Review of the anatomy is used to enable understanding of the imaging aspects of the thyroid structure in health and disease.



Course objectives: 

Upon completion of this module, the participant will be able to:

  • Describe the basic anatomy including the division into component parts, the normal size shape, position and character
  • Discuss the physiology of the thyroid
  • Describe the common diseases of the thyroid including thyroid cancer, hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism, and thyroiditis
  • Describe the commonly used modalities forthyroid imaging, particularly in ultrasound and nuclear medicine
