Course description: 

This virtual delivery two-day course is led by advanced cardiac imaging specialist Rick Meece, ACS RDCS RCIS FASE. Designed for newly hired cardiac sonography program graduates and intermediate sonographers, course attendees experience a real-world accelerated mentorship program geared to quickly advance essential skill sets and knowledge base. A career-based sequential design moves attendees through aspects of outpatient trans-thoracic and stress procedures, progressing to more complex in-hospital evaluations. A wealth of case study presentations are utilized, including research protocols, maximizing Doppler evaluation, urgent care situations, and assistance in performing transesophageal echocardiography.

Course objectives: 

Upon completion of this course, attendees will have enhanced understanding to:

• Describe steps and tips for performing a time-productive, guidelines based complete 2D echocardiographic examination, including use and reporting of newer advanced imaging applications.

• Know key components of an appropriate preliminary report most useful for the interpreting physician and for PACS based structured reporting

• Discuss essential skills and guidelines for cardiac and prosthetic valve evaluation 

• Understand appropriate criteria and imaging performance tips during ischemic and non-ischemic stress echocardiography examinations, including valve and myopathic disease.

• List various safety and patient advocacy protocols regarding procedural participation, preparation of equipment, and use of IV contrast agents.

• Share ways to perform time productive basic to intermediate 2-D and 3-D echocardiography for chamber and valve assessment
