Course description: 

In the current PACS replacement market and continues evolving medical modalities and applications knowledge of DICOM has become an essential part. To analyze communication between PACS applications, viewing/reporting stations or modalities is often experienced as very difficult. DICOM is a broadly accepted standard, but due to the sheer amount of possibilities, it remains a difficult hurdle to take.What may and what can I expect from the manufacturer/vendor, and how to collect the required information.During this interactive workshop, with field examples, we will teach you what DICOM is, and get used to the terminology used within DICOM. In class we will use all medical modalities including HIS, RIS, PACS, and Brokers. With help of capture and analyze tools we will be able to compare theory with practice. Field examples will be used to show/explain common occurring problems, but also common PACS migrations questions/problems will be discussed. This class is non-vendor specific.

Course objectives: 

After completing this course, the student will have a good understanding of DICOM and the DICOM communication processes between medical applications; will be able to ead/interpret a DICOM conformance statement; will understand the structure of DICOM messages, Headers, and Meta Data; understand the differences between Presentations states, DICOM overlays, and Burned In data, common issues with PACS migrations; hanging Protocols and Display Protocols.
